Plot summary
Aishe is a Uyghur Muslim woman whose father, a military man, trained her. She migrates to New York City and labors in Chinatown's underground kitchens for a meager living. Skinner is a young American soldier who has served three tours in the Middle East and is back in the city. He and Aishe meet and fall in love. Each had believed their life was destined to be spent alone, and together they begin to see the possibility of a better one.
