Plot summary
Pixote is a ten-year-old boy surviving on the streets of São Paulo, drawn into crime, prostitution and drugs. A police round-up of street children sends him to FEBEM, a juvenile reformatory, where the guards and their commander treat the boys as pawns in their own sadistic games. Pixote sniffs glue to escape the constant threat of abuse and rape. There he meets Chico, and Lilica, a seventeen-year-old trans hustler held in the same place, whose lover is one of the boys. After a boy dies of abuse by the police, the officials blame Lilica's lover for the killing. Pixote, Chico, Lilica and Dito find a chance to flee.
