Plot summary
João do Santo Cristo grows up on a small farm in the Bahia countryside, where a police officer shoots his father. After his mother dies he leaves for Brasília to find a relative he knows only from old photographs; the killing of his father's murderer, and the prison term that follows, delay the trip. In Brasília his cousin Pablo, who deals drugs, gives him deliveries to run, and João also finds work as a carpenter. When a delivery is raided by police, João climbs into an apartment and meets Maria Lúcia, a senator's daughter who studies architecture and loves punk music. The two fall in love. Jeremias, a dealer in the city, resents that João's marijuana reaches Maria Lúcia's friends.

- In early 2007, the publisher Editora Tapajós tried to legally stop the film, claiming it had held the song's copyrights for more than 20 years; Brazil's Superior Court of Justice declined the request to make the film.
- At the border of the Federal District with Goiás, a set city was built to recreate Ceilândia as it looked in the 1980s, on an empty terrain belonging to a landfill company.
- For the film, the production team altered a highway so it resembled the 1970s, and the crew found a 1955 city bus that had been running in the capital since its foundation and used it in the movie.
- Cinara Leal was chosen to play Teresa on April 15, 2011, after Fabiula Nascimento had to leave the film because of her busy schedule.
