Plot summary
The project '5 x slum, now by ourselves' gathered over 80 young people from Rio's favelas (slums), selected through workshops, script and filmmaking techniques to create a feature film consisting of five stories that reflect different facets of the daily lives of residents of these communities - with the promise of escape stereotypical representations.

- 5x Favela - Agora por Nós Mesmos was the first Brazilian feature-length film to be entirely conceived, written and made by young people who live in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro.
- To staff the film, the producers ran technical workshops: in January 2009, 603 young favela residents signed up, 229 took part, and 84 were chosen for the technical crew, with about R$45,000 spent on travel vouchers and R$50,000 on meal vouchers.
