Plot summary
In 1997, Captain Roberto Nascimento commands BOPE, and his task is to secure the Turano neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro before Pope John Paul II spends the night at the Archbishop's home, and to find a man who can take over his command before his pregnant wife Rosane gives birth. Two friends, André Matias and Neto Gouveia, join the Military Police hoping to work honestly, but find corruption and bureaucracy instead. Matias studies law and meets Maria and her friends, who run an NGO in an area controlled by the drug lord Baiano. After Neto and Matias take the squad's bribe money to fix police cars, their captain punishes them with kitchen duty and sends Fábio to meet traffickers at a party in Morro da Babilônia, where he fears a trap. Both friends then apply to BOPE.
