Plot summary
Kate works at Mercer Advertising in New York City, where her talent has not moved her forward. Mr. Mercer denies her a promotion, calling her not stable enough, unmarried and without ties to the company. Her coworker Darcy then makes up an engagement between Kate and Nick, a freelance videographer in Massachusetts, whose picture was taken with Kate at a friend's wedding. Kate receives the promotion. Nick rescues a little girl from a fire and lands in the news, so Mercer asks Kate to bring her fiancé to dinner with him and his wife.
