Plot summary
Janis Martínez, a photographer, asks Arturo, a forensic anthropologist whose group seeks to find and identify victims of executions carried out by the Fascists during and after the Civil War, to take up the case of a mass grave in the village she comes from, where her great-grandfather was killed and buried. He agrees to put it before his foundation. They sleep together, and Janis becomes pregnant. Janis chooses to raise the child by herself, though Arturo wants to be with her; he feels he must stand by his wife, who is having chemotherapy. In her hospital room Janis meets Ana, a teenage single mother who is frightened and remorseful. They give birth on the same day, go their separate ways, and keep in touch about their babies.
