Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Pal Joey (1957)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • Dorothy Kingsley, who wrote the script, said Pal Joey was meant to star Kirk Douglas with George Cukor directing. Harry Cohn's assistant Lilian Burns insisted only Frank Sinatra could play Joey, and she and Kingsley persuaded Cohn to cast Sinatra even though he and Sinatra were feuding.
  • Frank Sinatra's earnings from Pal Joey paid for his new home in Palm Springs, and he was so delighted with the film that he also built a restaurant there dedicated to it, named Pal Joey's.
  • Because Vera's burlesque number "Zip" needed an authentic drummer to mime the bumps and grinds, the extra seen playing the drums is swapped, in a jump cut, for professional session musician Jimmy Fernandes.
