Plot summary
In 1887, Henry and his gang rob the bank at Cuchillo, New Mexico, and the robbery becomes a shoot-out with the townspeople. Josiah leads a posse of bounty hunters in pursuit, staying close on the trail. Members of the gang are lost as they ride. Before dark the remaining outlaws need somewhere to hide, and they come upon the farm of George Tildon. George is a preacher; Ada is his wife, and Charlotte and Florence are their teenage daughters. The family's chapel stands empty, since consumption took the town. When night falls, the men descend on the house, and the family has little means to stop them.
