Plot summary

Marcus Boyd has finished medical school and will spend a year in Laos with Doctors Without Borders. Lucia Ramirez teaches English to recent immigrants, having left law school without telling her parents. The two have lived together for months and plan to marry before they leave. Brad, a Los Angeles radio host, and Miguel, who runs an auto shop and towing business, meet when Miguel tows Brad's car and insults fly between them. At a dinner where the families come together, the couple announce their engagement and the move, and the fathers learn they will be in-laws. As planning begins, each family pushes its own traditions, and Angela, a longtime friend of Brad's, urges the couple to compromise so both families can keep peace.
