Plot summary
Spain, 1973. Francisco Franco has ruled Spain with an iron fist since 1939 and is now old and sick, and his regime is weakened. Admiral Carrero Blanco, called the Ogro, is his natural successor, and the Basque separatist group ETA decides that he must die so the dictatorship does not continue. Four of its members, among them Izarra, Iker and Txabi, settle in Madrid and pose as bank officials. They plan to seize him at the church where he attends Mass each morning, and to demand the freedom of 150 Basque political prisoners in exchange for him.

- The film's real case: an ETA commando group rented a basement flat at Calle Claudio Coello 104 in Madrid, on Carrero Blanco's route to Mass, and over five months dug a tunnel packed with 80 kg of explosives stolen from a government depot, telling the landlord they were student sculptors.
- On 20 December 1973 a three-man ETA commando disguised as electricians detonated the bomb by command wire as Carrero Blanco's Dodge Dart passed, throwing the car 20 metres into the air and over a five-storey building.

Carrero Blanco survived the blast but died shortly afterwards, while his bodyguard and driver were killed instantly; the attackers shouted that it had been a gas explosion and escaped in the confusion.
