Plot summary
Diego Montes, a bullfighter gored in the ring and forced into early retirement, finds sexual gratification in slasher films and now teaches a bullfighting class. His student Ángel is diffident, suffers from vertigo, and during a bout of vertigo sees a woman kill a man by driving an ornamental silver hairpin into the base of his neck. After class Diego asks whether Ángel is homosexual, and Ángel vows to prove himself with women. He follows Diego's girlfriend Eva into an alley and makes a fumbling attempt to rape her, then faints at the sight of blood when she gashes her cheek. Guilt-ridden, he asks his domineering mother, a member of Opus Dei, for psychotherapy; she will only let him stay if he goes to mass and confession. Dissatisfied, Ángel goes to the police station and confesses to rape.

- Pedro Almodóvar said the opening sex scene of Matador, between actors Assumpta Serna and Jesús Ruyman, was unsimulated.
- When filming the final scene with Assumpta Serna, Pedro Almodóvar was unsure whether Nacho Martínez, as the wounded matador about to have sex with her, should graze her crotch with his mouth or do so with a rosebud between his teeth. Almodóvar tried it himself and decided to put distance between the actor's tongue and the girl's sex.
