Plot summary

Mary has left prison after setting fire to her boyfriend, James Lincoln Fields, and now works nights at the Deer Gas Market, a gas station that never closes. Bobby walks her through her duties on her first shift, and Debbie, a friend from her childhood, comes by. James, the serial killer known as the Rain Ripper, phones her from prison whenever it rains, playing the Dee Clark song Raindrops, which he liked to play while he killed people and made her watch. She keeps the hallucinations of him under control with medication. A trucker flirts with her and deliberately leaves his credit card behind, and a woman calls asking when the station closes.
