Plot summary
Dani Odello-Timmis is alone in the country house she and her husband, the psychiatrist Ted Timmis, have just bought when Olin Boole, once a patient of Ted's, comes to the door and warns her that someone has gotten inside. Dani is murdered there, and Olin is taken to be the killer. A year on, Ted calls on Dani's twin, Darcy Odello, who is blind and keeps a shop of curiosities in Cork, and hands her Olin's glass eye, an object she can read for visions. From it she sees her sister's last moments. Days later Darcy turns up at the country house, where Ted now lives with his girlfriend, Yana. Before her arrival she had sent them a chest holding a life-sized wooden golem, which she described as a gift.
