Plot summary
Bear works at a music store with his friends Nikki, Ian and Sarah, and he has romantic feelings for Nikki. He comes home one night to find his cat Sandy dead after eating oxycodone. He goes to a crystal shop for a replacement crystal necklace for Nikki, but buys a One Wish Willow instead. The toy grants a wish to whoever breaks it. After the group hangs out, Nikki asks Bear if he likes her, and he cannot admit it. He breaks the toy and wishes that Nikki love him more than anyone.

- On July 6, 2026 the film passed Enter the Dragon's $400 million to become the highest-grossing film ever made on a budget under $1 million, unadjusted for inflation.
- Writer-director Curry Barker turned down a $2 million offer to rewrite his script so that lead character Bear would be portrayed as a hero.
- Focus Features paid $14-15 million for distribution rights after the film's TIFF premiere, the highest price ever commanded by a genre film in the festival's history, with Jason Blum also joining as an executive producer through Blumhouse.
- After the festival premiere, the scene of Sarah's head being smashed against a brick was trimmed by "six or seven smashes" specifically to avoid an NC-17 rating from the Motion Picture Association.
- The production could not reshoot its party scene because the house used for filming burned down in the January 2025 Southern California wildfires.

Barker originally wrote and shot a Romeo and Juliet-inspired ending in which Nikki kills herself after breaking free of the wish, but on the advice of his father, star Cooper Tomlinson and others he instead filmed and chose an alternate take where Nikki survives for the theatrical cut.
