Plot summary
Mike Maxwell is close to closing a realtor deal for a train yard in Chicago when he learns that his sister Janet and her husband Steve have died. He travels to their farm in rural Ohio, where his four nephews, Justice, Junior, Samuel and Simon Kicklighter, live. Janet ran a dance studio in town, where the boys learned ballet. The boys are homeschooled, unruly and fond of dangerous activities, and social worker Gretchen Rice is looking for a family that will take all four of them. Mike's advisor Carol threatens to give his project to the untested Devin while he is away, and the boys put a snake in the toilet to scare him.

- Four real-life brothers play Ben Stiller's nephews in Nutcrackers, Homer, 12, Ulysses, 10, and 8-year-old twins Arlo and Atlas Janson, and all four made their film debuts. Their mother, Karey Williams, was a film school classmate of director David Gordon Green, and all four are trained ballet dancers.
- Nutcrackers gave Ben Stiller his first lead film role in six years; he was revealed to be leading the cast in December 2023.
- Scenes were shot at the Ohio family farm of the four brothers who play Ben Stiller's nephews, and every animal seen in the film was the family's own, except the snake the boys put in a toilet to scare Stiller's character.
