Plot summary
The New Wave of Australian cinema in the 1970s and 1980s brought art house films to international audiences, but alongside them ran a rougher trade. Once a new adults-only rating allowed more nudity, sex and violence on screen, directors turned out cheap horror, thrillers, westerns, teen films, sex romps and road movies. Critics and film historians called the era vulgar, and Australia's official film history largely left it out. The project grew out of years of research into that era. Interviews with actors, directors, screenwriters and producers were recorded, more than eighty in all, drawing on Australia, the United States and Britain, and clips from the pictures themselves fill out three strands: sex, horror and action.

- Mark Hartley was close to giving up on his documentary when he posted a 100-page draft script to Quentin Tarantino, who replied the day after, saying he would do whatever he could to get the film made.
