Plot summary
The house the Wallers buy has a backyard pool, and that is the draw for Ray, whose baseball career is over because of multiple sclerosis. He and his wife Eve move in with their daughter Izzy and son Elliot, planning for the pool to keep the children busy and to give Ray somewhere to do physical therapy. Its water comes from an underground spring, and the pool largely takes care of itself. Ray spends his days in it, and his symptoms recede. The family cat goes missing. Something in the pool pulls at Izzy and at Elliot, and years before, a girl named Rebecca Summers was dragged under that same water while fetching a toy boat for her brother Tommy.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Night Swim (2024)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Bryce McGuire's 2014 short Night Swim went viral after its release on YouTube on October 12, 2014, allowing him to break into the film industry as a screenwriter.
- Rather than rely on computer animation to simulate water, the film was shot wet for wet, and McGuire and cinematographer Charlie Sarroff used older, wider lenses to make the pool seem as vast as the ocean.
- The 34-day shoot was based at an Altadena home with a 9-foot-deep backyard pool, but because other shots needed deeper water, McGuire spent four days filming in a 13-foot Olympic-sized pool in Chatsworth.
