Plot summary
Lucy Hill is a high-powered Miami consultant who loves her upscale life, her cars and her shoes. Her company sends her to New Ulm, Minnesota, to restructure a food manufacturing plant, where Japanese automation will replace at least half the workers. The freezing weather, the icy roads and the locals greet her without much warmth. Before her first day she insults Ted Mitchell at a dinner hosted by the plant's secretary, Blanche; he heads the workers' union. She also annoys Flo, the waitress at the local hangout. Lucy's assignment is temporary, and she expects it to bring her a promotion.
