Plot summary
In Homewood, Alabama, Simon McNally has paranoid schizophrenia and hears the voice of his dead father belittling him. After nearly a decade in a mental hospital, he struggles with daily life while his older sister, DeeDee, carries the financial load for them both. Simon believes he sees a young woman dragged into a van, but Detective Liz Glover dismisses his report. Simon then asks his neighbor Ed Deerman, a retired campus security guard, to help him find her.
