Plot summary
At Fairmount High School, the students who put parties ahead of classwork are led by Mark 'Dags' D'Agastino and Reggie Barry. They cut class with a handful of classmates and throw a party at the home of Principal Moss, who hears about it and catches them there. His punishment is detention, and the work he sets is a letter to the President about the failings of their schooling. Lisa Perkins, the school's academic star, writes it and mails it. Word comes back that the President liked what he read and wants the group in Washington to talk about reform. Miss Milford, the new keyboarding teacher, joins Moss as a chaperone, and the students board a bus for the capital. Along for the ride are Lisa, Wanda, Carla, Virus, Meg, Herbert, Steve Nisser and Miosky.
