Biography
Lawrence Dane, born Lawrence Joseph Zahab, was a Canadian actor who also produced films. He grew up in Ottawa after being born in Masson, Quebec, and began acting on stage in 1958, playing an old policeman in Our Town, a Fisher Park Community Centre staging directed by Lynne Gorman. That same year he met the filmmaker F. R. Crawley, who gave him work as an extra and a stand-in for John Perkins on the television series R.C.M.P., and his screen career followed. His best known part was Lieutenant Preston in Bride of Chucky (1998), and his other films included Rituals (1977), a slasher movie he also helped produce, and Running (1979). He cowrote and directed Heavenly Bodies and produced The Rowdyman, written by and starring Gordon Pinsent. He earned a Genie Award nomination for best supporting actor for Running in 1980, and A Question of the Sixth, a television film, brought him an Earle Grey Award nomination in 1981.
