Plot summary
At the Buchenwald concentration camp, in the last months of World War II, the emaciated prisoners wait for the Allied forces to arrive. Hans Pippig, one of the inmates, opens the luggage of an incoming prisoner and finds a small Jewish child hidden inside. To report the boy would mean his death. Pippig and the prisoners around him keep him concealed, and everyone who knows about the boy is risking his life. Hiding him also breaks the camp's rules. For a long time the prisoners have been preparing an uprising against the SS, and any violation of camp discipline puts that plan in danger.
