Plot summary
When her health no longer allows her to keep the farmhouse in the French countryside, Berthe moves into the Blagnac home of her daughter Émilie, who practices law there with her husband Bruno. Their children are grown: Anne studies law, and Lucien was adopted. Berthe is unhappy in the house and thinks it pretentious; at night she talks to herself beside the swimming pool. Concerned about how her mother is doing, Émilie goes to see her younger brother Antoine, a neurosurgeon; the two fell out three years earlier at their father's funeral. She tells him about their mother's condition and asks him to spend Christmas dinner with the family.
