Plot summary
Wendell Mundy's engagement to Sonia, a woman from a wealthier family, divides his household. His brother Pierce works at their mother's dry cleaning business, drifts without direction, and bickers with his relatives. At a dinner meant to bring the two families together, the evening ends in an argument. Pierce also brushes off the attention of Angela, a teenager who flirts with him. When his childhood friend Soldier Richards is released from jail, Soldier's parents ask Pierce to keep him out of trouble. Pierce visits local businesses looking for work for him, but owners refuse because of Soldier's reputation. A man Soldier wronged threatens to kill him.
