Plot summary
Hannah Swensen runs the Cookie Jar Bakery and Café in Eden Lake, Minnesota, and she has been chosen as a guest judge for the town's first Dessert Bake-Off, with the semifinals broadcast live from the high school by station WNKW. Coach Len Bishop, who took a late spot as the third judge, is found dead outside the school by Norman Rhodes, a dentist who assists with the basketball team. Detective Mike Kingston, the man Hannah has chosen to date, leads the inquiry and keeps her close to it. Suspects include Len's wife Michele, who believed her husband was unfaithful, a second-string player named Josh Reynolds who was seen damaging school property, and the contest's three finalists, since mishaps have struck most of the judges, Hannah among them.
