Plot summary
On the night of his appearance on a late-night talk show, the famous mentalist Arthur Sinclair, recovering from a cardiac condition, takes a good-luck call from his much younger wife Allison. She is in bed with Gil Weston, a struggling actor who loves her, and the pair intend Arthur to die of a heart attack brought on by terror. Gil lets himself into the house and presents himself to Arthur as a journalist, saying Allison arranged the interview. He needles Arthur by suggesting the mentalist is a fake, and uses Arthur's competitive streak to goad him into physical exertion that could strain his heart.
