Plot summary
A surgeon, Dr. Richard Walker, has brought his wife Sondra to Paris, where he is attending a medical conference. In their hotel room her suitcase will not open, and he works out that she picked up someone else's at the airport. While he is in the shower, a call comes that he does not hear, and when he comes out Sondra is gone. Still jet-lagged, he asks the hotel staff for help. A wino in a cafe tells him he saw her pushed into a car in a nearby alley, and Walker doubts him until he finds her ID bracelet on the cobblestones. The Paris police and the U.S. Embassy answer with paperwork. His own search leads him to Michelle, a streetwise young woman who took his wife's suitcase by mistake and who knows more than she will say.
