Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Gorky Park (1983)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Before William Hurt was cast as Arkady Renko in Gorky Park, Dustin Hoffman and Al Pacino were both considered for the role, while Cary Grant and Burt Lancaster were considered to play Jack Osborne and Roman Polanski was considered for Prof. Andreev.
- The Soviet Communist Party condemned Gorky Park as anti-Communist and anti-Soviet and refused the production access to Moscow, forcing the crew to shoot mainly in Helsinki, Finland, with the city's Kaisaniemi park standing in for the title location, and in Stockholm, Sweden.
- Gorky Park novelist Martin Cruz Smith turned down the chance to adapt his own book for the screen, leaving the job to Dennis Potter, whose screenplay relocated the story's climax from New York City to Stockholm.
- Because every other actor playing a Russian character in Gorky Park was British except Polish-born Joanna Pacuła, American star William Hurt adopted an English accent for the role of Arkady Renko to match his co-stars.
