Joe Silver

Joe Silver was an American actor whose work spanned stage, radio, television and film, and whose unusually deep voice was often noted. Born in Chicago and raised in Green Bay, Wisconsin, he attended the University of Wisconsin. His Broadway career began with a 1942 revival of Tobacco Road, and he later appeared in the first production of Gypsy: A Musical Fable in 1959. In 1971 he was nominated for a Tony Award for supporting actor for playing nine roles in Lenny. He made more than a thousand television appearances, starting in 1947 as a panelist on What's It Worth, and later worked on children's programs such as Mr. I. Magination and Space Funnies. His film work included Shivers (1975), Deathtrap (1982), Move (1970), Rabid (1977), The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz (1974), Rhinoceros (1974) and Switching Channels (1988). His final performance was in the musical Legs Diamond. He died in 1989.
