John Wheeler

John Wheeler was a character actor whose rich, powerful tenor voice and short, bald look made him a familiar presence on television. He earned a Bachelor of Music at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, then sang with the City Center Opera in New York and appeared in Carousel and Wonderful Town at the Brussels World's Fair in 1958, repeating his role in the latter for its television premiere that year. On Broadway he was in The Happiest Girl in the World, Kean, Cafe Crown and I Had a Ball, and he played Herman, the dance hall proprietor, in the stage Sweet Charity, a part Stubby Kaye took in the movie version, where Wheeler had a smaller role (1969). His television credits included The Odd Couple, Green Acres, The Brady Bunch and Star Trek, and he worked into the 1990s.
