Plot summary
Emma Winslow has spent a year in London promoting Discovery Resorts, and her boyfriend RJ proposes there. She accepts, then returns to San Francisco to tell her mother, Lana. Lana runs a medical research lab and has raised Emma by herself since her husband died. Emma intends to skip grad school for her own business, backed by a six-figure sponsorship from Discovery, and her wedding is planned for a resort in Phuket a month away, paid for by that sponsorship. In Thailand, Lana learns that RJ's father is Will Jackson, her Stanford boyfriend from years before.
