Plot summary

Shao Kahn answers Shang Tsung's defeat by declaring war on Earthrealm, and his first wave of Outworld warriors and Netherrealm demons lays siege to the Wu Shi monastery, where Kung Lao, Jax Briggs and Kurtis Stryker repel them. At the onset of the assault, Princess Kitana, Kintaro, General Reiko and Jade are confronted by Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, and when Liu Kang and Raiden join them, Shao Kahn appears to offer one final tournament in Outworld to decide Earthrealm's fate. Raiden accepts and gives up his immortality to take part. In the Netherrealm, Scorpion reawakens and the Elder God Shinnok confronts him over the death of Quan Chi. The Lin Kuei grandmaster orders Kuai Liang and Smoke to hunt Scorpion and submit to cybernetic modification; the pair rebel and Liang escapes alone, taking his dead brother's codename, Sub-Zero.
