Plot summary
The king, old and in poor health, has lost his only son in the war. A warrior who fought in that battle was asked by the prince to carry the news to him, and he travels to the court to keep that promise. The king wants the warrior to serve him, but the warrior is tired of war and wants a quiet place to live. On the road he saves a young woman chased by soldiers; she is a witch, and the Inquisition is spreading through the kingdom. With a new love in his chest and the soldiers still after her, he takes up his weapons again to keep the people he cares about from harm.
