Plot summary
Eva Lovelace has attended audition after audition without being given a role. At the Easton Theatre she meets the experienced actor Robert Hedges, who offers to help her, and the playwright Joseph Sheridan, who is taken with her. Louis Easton, who owns the theater, strikes a deal with Rita Vernon, a star known for her demands, and she takes a small part in an upcoming play for her choice of roles in the following production. Months of auditions and moves leave Eva struggling, and Hedges finds her in a desperate situation before taking her to a party at Easton's apartment, where she surprises the guests.

- The script was first tailored for Constance Bennett, then RKO's biggest attraction, but newcomer Katharine Hepburn read it and convinced producer Pandro S. Berman she was born to play the part; she got the role over the more popular Bennett, who was reassigned to Bed of Roses (1933).
- Director Lowell Sherman talked the RKO bosses into a week of rehearsal with his actors before filming began, paying for it with a promise to shoot the whole picture in only 18 days, from April 21 to May 12, 1933.
- Katharine Hepburn was paid $2,500 per week for her work on the picture, which won her her first Academy Award for Best Actress.
- Unlike most feature films of the time, Morning Glory was shot in the same order as the script's scenes.
