Don Alvarado
Biography
Don Alvarado was an American actor who also worked as an assistant director and production manager. Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, he got his first silent film part, uncredited, in Mademoiselle Midnight in 1924, and the studio soon cast him in secondary and then leading roles on the strength of his Latin lover looks. The coming of sound largely ended his starring work, though he kept busy in smaller Spanish character parts, among them the 1929 adaptation of The Bridge of San Luis Rey, and he appeared on stage in Dinner At Eight at the Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles in 1933. From 1939 he worked for Warner Bros. as an assistant director, credited as Don Page, and later as a production manager, helping make The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948) and East of Eden and Rebel Without a Cause (1955). His last film work was The Old Man and the Sea in 1958.
