Mistress (1992) on Netflix

Plot summary

A years-old script by Marvin Landisman, a down-and-out screenwriter and director in Hollywood, reaches Jack Roth, a producer whose own career has faded, and Roth offers to round up backers for the movie. Three men with money emerge: Carmine, a disturbed war veteran; George, an eccentric millionaire; and Evan, a ruthless businessman. Each wants his own mistress given a part as the price of his backing. Beverly has talent, Patricia is an alcoholic flight attendant, and Peggy is perky but untalented. Marvin is asked to compromise his standards and rewrite his script, a bleak story about a painter, until little of his original idea remains. The project also strains his marriage to his long-patient wife Rachel.
