Plot summary
Jan Žižka leads a mercenary band of former nobles, knights and cutthroats who fight for pay, among them the veteran Ulrich and the archer Freddy. He saves Lord Boreš from brigands and takes the lone surviving attacker, Mick, into the group. He escorts Boreš to Prague, where a debate is held on taking King Wenceslaus IV to Rome for his coronation, and Rosenberg's support is not gained. Žižka is then tasked with abducting Rosenberg's fiancée Kateřina to force Rosenberg to keep his word. He visits his childhood home and learns that his brother Jaroslav and his nephew are aiding rebels with coin from his mercenary work. Žižka takes Kateřina from the cathedral. King Wenceslaus' half-brother King Sigismund learns of the abduction, and soldiers, Cumans led by Torak and Rosenberg's personal guard under Captain Martin are sent to recapture her.
