Plot summary
The surface of the planet is in ruins, and Alexa moves across it with two sentinels in pursuit. She reaches a tunnel and the machines follow her inside, where the trap closes: a device destroys one of them, and Alexa stuns the other. The captured sentinel is the prize of the trap. Alexa belongs to a resistance group that captured it on purpose, and the plan is an experiment. The group members link themselves to the machine in the virtual reality of the Matrix, hoping the man-made creature can be persuaded to take up the human cause. There is not much time.
