- Virginie Verrier sent the script first to Garance Marillier, who accepted immediately. Verrier had weighed casting a professional footballer who could be taught to act or a sporty actress taught to play football, and chose Marillier after seeing an Instagram video of her talking about playing football.
- Filming was originally planned for Philadelphia, but Verrier said it was logistically simpler to stay in France; Le Touquet in Pas-de-Calais stood in for moments of Pichon's life in the United States.
- Garance Marillier trained for months with two coaches and studied Marinette Pichon's movements and physical condition; Pichon also spoke at length with her and gave her personal training.
