An Impossible Love (2018) on Netflix

Plot summary

Rachel Steiner works as a secretary in Châteauroux in the late 1950s. She meets Philippe Arnold, a translator from a wealthy bourgeois family, and the two begin an affair. Philippe can be egotistical and dismissive of Rachel and of her Jewish background, but she is too taken with him to notice. Chantal is born to the couple. Philippe will not wed outside his own social class or religion, and he keeps his distance, so Rachel brings the girl up by herself. Chantal becomes a source of great joy to her mother. Rachel sets out to have Philippe legally recognize his child, which would give the girl his surname.
