Plot summary

Texas Ranger Roland Sharp and his fellow Ranger Maggie Swanson question Percy Stevens about Morgan Ball, who is needed to testify against crime boss John Cortland. Ball is murdered at a warehouse, where a sniper also wounds Swanson, and five University of Texas cheerleaders, Anne, Teresa, Evie, Heather and Barb, see it happen. With the shooter unidentified and Swanson recovering in a hospital, Sharp is ordered to guard the students, so he moves into their sorority house posing as an assistant cheerleading coach who handles conditioning. He lays down ground rules, among them no cell phones and less revealing clothing. Sharp, divorced and long estranged from his seventeen-year-old daughter Emma, becomes drawn to Barb's English teacher, Molly McCarthy.
