Nektarios, a Greek Orthodox cleric, serves as Metropolitan bishop of Pentapolis in Egypt. Jealousy grows among the clergy ranked above him in Alexandria over the following he draws among the public and his name for devotion, and they accuse him of ambition and press for his dismissal. Removed from the post, he returns to Greece and is placed in charge of the Rizarios Ecclesiastical School in Athens, where the students come to respect his modest way of life and his dedication to teaching.
