Plot summary
On a Malibu beach, Heather works as a lifeguard with her ex-boyfriend Chavez and colleagues Doug and Barb. Jenny is completing community service for shoplifting, and Bryan proposes to Barb. A nearby tremor releases prehistoric goblin sharks that attack swimmers. Chavez visits a construction site where Heather's new boyfriend Colin and workers George, Yancey, and Karl are working. When a tsunami warning arrives, Chavez returns and rescues Heather after a shark knocks her into the water. The beach is evacuated, and Heather, Chavez, Doug, Barb, Jenny, and Bryan take shelter in the lifeguard hut. The wave knocks Bryan unconscious and cuts Jenny's leg. Heather stitches the wound, but the blood draws the sharks. Damage from the tsunami blocks help, leaving the group stranded with the sharks.
