Plot summary
Clark Stevens comes to Cunningham Hall, a psychiatric facility, for the training he must complete before medical school. The director, Dr. Albert Franks, and other doctors greet him, and a nurse, Sara, shows him around. A patient named Carl says he does not belong there and that reformed patients are held as prisoners. Alice, another patient, reports seeing a boy at a window. The tour ends in the basement cells, called the Madhouse, where a patient attacks Clark with a piece of glass and a guard beats him down. At night Clark sees a young boy on the hospital grounds.
