Plot summary
Lisa is engaged to Carlos, an investment banker her mother Victoria chose for her, though Lisa is unsure about the wedding. Her older sister Vanessa, raising two children on her own, moves into the house of their great-aunt Madea, a Southern matriarch planning the family's reunion. Madea has also been ordered by a judge to take in Nikki, a runaway teenager, after breaking the terms of her house arrest. Nikki's mother is in jail and her father is absent, so she lands in a series of foster homes before Madea's, and the two clash over Nikki's disrespect. Madea presses her to work at being better than the people who wronged her, and Vanessa keeps her distance from Frankie, a bus driver and painter who courts her.
