Plot summary
Aspasia Zorbala and Anargyros Prokopis own the two neighboring tavernas that compete for customers at a village square on a Greek island. Their quarrel has lasted for years, and Anargyros, who once served as a sergeant major in the Greek army, clashes with Aspasia whenever the two of them meet. Their children do not share the feud. Maroula, Aspasia's daughter, and Dimitris, Anargyros's son, are in love and see each other without their parents' knowledge. When a mayoral election comes to the island, both tavern owners stand as candidates. In their campaigns they promise the voters everything they can think of.
