Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Música (2024)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- For a single-take sequence, Rudy Mancuso used a live theatrical approach in which sets and backdrops moved out of frame in real time; the cast had half a day of rehearsal and half a day of shooting, and the scene took over 14 days.
- Mancuso avoided studio overdubs, having the actors and the environment create the practical rhythmic sounds during the actual takes. Editing then took several months to make sure every frame was in sync with the music.
SPOILER
The ending was left deliberately ambiguous. Mancuso said he was allergic to "buttoned-up endings" and knew from his earlier scripts that his character would not get the girl, because that would not have been authentic to his own experience.- Mancuso shot in real-life New Jersey locations from his childhood to keep the semi-autobiography authentic, including his childhood home in Glen Ridge and The Ironbound in Newark, which stood in for the Brazilian-American community where he grew up.
- Rudy Mancuso had the idea for Música for 10 years, exploring how he sees and hears things differently through short-form content on Vine and YouTube during his college days before it became a film.
