Lucky and Zorba (1998) on Netflix

Plot summary

When a petrol ship sinks, the sea off the coast fills with oil. Kengah, a seagull flying home from her first migration and close to laying her first egg, dives with her flock into the slick and comes up coated. She flies inland, falls into a garden onto Zorba, a black cat, and tells him he need not fear eating her: the oil has ruined her. She asks him for three promises in case she does not recover. He must not eat the egg she is about to lay, he must care for it until it hatches, and he must teach the newborn to fly. Zorba agrees, though he says he is unsure he can, and leaves to find his friends who might clean her.
