Plot summary
Donna Summer's life and career unfold through an archive of unpublished film excerpts, photographs, artwork, home video, writings and personal recordings. Tapes she recorded for her memoir Ordinary Girl supply much of the account in her own words, so the story is told in the first person, singular and plural. It opens with her early career in Germany with Giorgio Moroder and continues into later years centered on spirituality and family life, which stands as a shelter from troubles tied to notoriety and intimate wounds. The film takes its title from her 1975 album and its disco track of the same name.
